Personal Assistant Required – Dinas Powys
A Little About Me
I am a man in my mid-80s living in the Dinas Powys area. I have vascular dementia and am supported by my family, who check in on me regularly. I have a great sense of humour and enjoy a bit of banter. I used to play golf three times a week at Cottrell Park and still enjoy visiting when possible.
Purpose of the Role
I am looking for a kind, reliable, and patient Personal Assistant to support me in my home and, when possible, accompany me to the golf club. The role involves providing personal care, companionship, and helping me maintain my daily routine in a safe and supportive way.
Hours of Work
1. 8.5 hours per week
2. Daily support required (excluding Wednesdays)
3. Approximately 1 hour per day, around lunchtime
Rate of Pay
4. £15.20 per hour
Duties and Responsibilities
5. Prompt and assist with personal care (showering, oral hygiene, dressing)
6. Prompt with medication
7. Prepare a light meal (e.g., sandwich)
8. Check the fridge for out-of-date items while I am washing
9. Provide companionship and social interaction
10. Accompany me to the golf club once a week (likely Fridays)
11. Assist with light practical tasks as time allows
12. Ensure my safety and wellbeing at all times
Person Specification
The successful applicant will:
13. Have an understanding of dementia
14. Be kind, patient, and reliable
15. Have a good sense of humour and enjoy friendly banter
16. Driver required with business class insurance
17. Be female (due to personal care requirements)
About the job
Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid four weekly and appropriate holiday pay given.
The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check - which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority).
