About Us
At People in Action (Yorkshire), we’ve been working alongside learning disabled and autistic people in Leeds since 1983. We believe in inclusion, empowerment, and person-centred support. We are proud to offer a unique opportunity to lead our re-launched LGBTQ+ support project as Project Manager.
About the LGBTQ+ Project
Our ‘Out in Leeds’ project provided a safe and inclusive space for learning disabled and autistic LGBTQ+ adults aged 18+ for six years. After the group closed in 2024, this new service will fill a vital gap, creating community, reducing stigma, and promoting wellbeing.
The weekly group will be shaped by members but is envisaged to include workshops, social activities, and knowledge sharing sessions. With the support of a Group Leader and two Group Support Workers, the Project Manager will lead and grow this initiative, building relationships, raising awareness, and empowering members to connect with the wider LGBTQ+ community.
The Role
As LGBTQ+ Project Manager, you will:
* Recruit members and help shape a safe, inclusive and empowering group.
* Manage the Group Leader and oversee delivery of engaging weekly sessions.
* Build strong partnerships with LGBTQ+ and learning disability organisations in Leeds.
* Amplify the voices of members and promote inclusion in community spaces.
* Monitor project outcomes, member engagement, and report on progress.
* Contribute to future sustainability and outreach by developing relationships and identifying opportunities for growth.
You will work closely with the Operations Manager and wider People in Action team to ensure the project reflects our values and delivers lasting impact.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a values-driven, passionate, and proactive person with:
* Lived experience as an LGBTQ+ person (highly desirable).
* Knowledge of the issues facing LGBTQ+ learning-disabled and autistic people.
* Experience in community development, project delivery, or member-led initiatives.
* A commitment to safeguarding, equality, and inclusion.
* The ability to build strong relationships and work independently.
You may have worked in community projects, advocacy, LGBTQ+ services, or support roles, what matters most is your understanding, compassion, and drive to make a difference.
Our Values
We’re looking for someone who shares our core values:
Person-Centred Inclusive Empowering Quality
This is a highly rewarding opportunity to lead a small but impactful project that makes a real difference. If you’re passionate about visibility, safety, and inclusion for learning disabled or autistic LGBTQ+ people, we’d love to hear from you.
Our Commitment to Race Equality
We acknowledge the existence of institutional racism and are committed to challenging inequality. We actively work to remove barriers and practices that contribute to systemic injustice. People in Action operates a zero-tolerance policy toward racism.
Closing Date: Sunday 31 August at 11:59pm
