The Grammar School at Leeds is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Sixth Form Chef/Kitchen Supervisor to lead the day-to-day catering provision for our Sixth Form. This is a hands-on role responsible for the preparation and presentation of high-quality meals and services, ensuring they are delivered at the right times and to the school’s standards, with pupil satisfaction at the heart of everything you do. You will oversee the safe, hygienic operation of all food service areas, ensuring full compliance with statutory regulations and school policies. The successful candidate will take responsibility for menu planning, staff rotas, ordering, delivery checks and stock control, alongside maintaining accurate records for finance and staff timekeeping. You will manage cleaning schedules, oversee daily shutdown procedures, respond appropriately to customer feedback, and report or act on incidents such as accidents, food safety concerns or security issues. You will be educated to at least GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in Maths and English and hold an NVQ Level 3 or above, City & Guilds 706/1/2, or similar qualification in food preparation or kitchen management, or be qualified by relevant experience. You should have experience in a commercial or school catering environment in a similar supervisory role, be confident working in a customer-facing setting, and enjoy contributing new ideas to enhance the pupil experience. Strong communication skills, good customer service, and the ability to lead and motivate a catering team are essential. Catering colleagues need to be available to work some ad-hoc days during the school holiday periods to assist with events as well as some weekends for school sport fixtures on a rota basis. As such, flexibility is key. In return, catering colleagues receive a retainer payment during this period which is included in the salary.
