About this client/child: Ashley (19) lives at home with her mum and three siblings aged 11, 14 and 16. She loves all things ’girly’; having her hair and nails done, playing with her dolls, and relaxing with her favourite TV shows. She also looks forward to her weekly hydrotherapy and private physiotherapy sessions, which bring her a great deal of enjoyment and sensory stimulation. Ashley has quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy and presents with complex physical needs. She is a full-time wheelchair user and fully dependent on others for all aspects of her care. She is primarily gastrostomy-fed, but occasionally has small tasters orally, with support from her mum. Ashley communicates using an Eye Gaze device and is still developing confidence and consistency with this method. She also vocalises and expresses herself clearly through her tone, facial expressions, and body movements. When she’s happy, she giggles and becomes visibly animated, often using flamboyant arm movements to show her excitement. Her emotional responses—whether joyful or upset—are deeply expressive and allow those around her to tune in and build strong, empathetic connections. Ashley thrives with calm, consistent, and understanding support from individuals who take the time to get to know her and respond to her cues.
Overview of role: We are looking for a confident and compassionate advocate for Ashley – someone who can be her voice, champion her choices, and help her live a full and enriched life. This role is about much more than care; it’s about promoting Ashley’s independence, empowering her to engage with the world around her, and supporting her to thrive. From September, Ashley plans to attend college three days a week. On those days, you’ll support her in the classroom, helping her participate in lessons and navigate the college environment. There will also be occasions when you will need to manage her medical needs, for example managing her PEG tube in case she is tube fed whilst at college. The remaining day will be spent out in the community, where you’ll help Ashley access meaningful activities, explore new opportunities, and enjoy experiences that reflect her interests and personality.
Who this job would suit: This role would suit a confident, outgoing, proactive, and emotionally intuitive *female who can build trust and form a strong, respectful connection with both Ashley and her wider support network. You’ll confidently advocate for Ashley’s needs and preferences, acting as her voice when needed, while taking the time to get to know her unique ways of communicating. Someone who can sensitively navigate family dynamics, gently integrate into the existing routines, and bring a thoughtful, person-centred approach. A creative thinker who can plan engaging, age-appropriate activities, both at home or in the community, and find new opportunities in the local area for Ashley to enjoy would be highly valued. The ability to champion Ashley’s interests, support her in exploring her independence, and engage with warmth, humour, and consistency will make a meaningful difference in her life.
What’s great about this job: This is a truly rewarding opportunity to build a meaningful one-to-one connection with a vibrant young person, supporting her to enjoy the things she loves and explore her independence. You’ll be well supported by an experienced case manager and benefit from tailored training specific to Ashley’s needs, including bespoke input from her private physiotherapist, occupational therapist, and assistive technology consultant.
Who is recruiting for this role? Snap Care will be carrying out all recruitment including shortlisting, recruiter interviews and arranging employer interviews. Please note, unfortunately, we are unable to provide sponsorship for any of our vacancies.
* When a specific gender is essential, it is considered a genuine occupational requirement under paragraph 1, schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010, for a female or male worker to work with our client
