Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Locum Practice Nurse to join a friendly and supportive GP practice in the Newport area of South Wales. This is a maternity cover position offering 2–3 days per week, with flexibility on working days.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care, primarily through treatment room duties and supporting the management of long-term conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Treatment Room Duties
* Wound care and dressings (including complex wounds)
* Immunisations and vaccinations (including childhood and travel vaccines where applicable)
* Cervical cytology (smear tests)
* Blood pressure monitoring and NHS health checks
* Phlebotomy
* ECG recording
* Infection prevention and control procedures
Long-Term Condition Management
* Supporting reviews for patients with chronic conditions such as: Diabetes, Asthma, COPD, Hypertension
* Monitoring, patient education, and lifestyle advice
* Assisting with care planning and documentation
Person Specification
Essential
* Practice Nurse with valid NMC registration
* Previous experience working in a GP practice or primary care setting
* Competent in treatment room skills including immunisations and cytology
* Experience in managing or supporting long-term condition reviews
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Desirable
* Chronic disease management qualifications or training
* Experience using GP clinical systems (e.g., EMIS, SystmOne)
* Up-to-date mandatory training
