University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fixed‑term Band 6 Occupational Therapist role within the Medicine Therapy Team.
About the Team: We cover a range of wards including Respiratory High Dependency, hepatology, renal, respiratory, gastroenterology, infectious diseases and general medicine.
About the Therapy services department: part of a department of over 260 therapy staff, offering in‑service training.
The role involves assessment and treatment of complex patients across a variety of pathologies, managing rehabilitation and discharge planning, leading and supporting team members, engaging in training, providing leadership, mentoring students, and leading service development projects.
Your Responsibilities
* Undertake the assessment and treatment of complex patients with a variety of pathologies, ensuring a broad range of experience and skills to meet patient demands.
* Undertake the assessment and treatment of complex patients’ rehabilitation and complex discharge planning.
* Develop leadership and management skills to supervise and support other team members.
* Engage in training and developmental opportunities for yourself and for the delivery of training to others.
* Provide leadership to the wider Medicine Therapy Team with support from the Band 7 staff.
* Mentor students from local universities.
* Lead on service development projects.
What we’re looking for
* Experience as a Band 5 Occupational Therapist or an existing Band 6 seeking the next step in their professional career.
* A broad range of relevant clinical experience with demonstrated passion for a diverse medicine patient caseload.
* Ability to treat patients with care, compassion, and dignity, plus excellent prioritisation and time‑management skills.
* Ability to adapt to a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment.
* Supported by a robust competency document and guidance from a supervisor and wider team to develop clinical and leadership skills.
