Assistant Quantity Surveyor - Bespoke Housing Developments
Location: Cheshire
Salary: £30,000 - £38,000 + Benefits + Career Progression
Your new company
Our client is a well-established, family-led housing developer operating across Cheshire and the surrounding counties. With a strong reputation for delivering thoughtfully designed, high-quality homes, they specialise in low-volume, high-spec projects that reflect their passion for craftsmanship and community. From traditional new builds to barn conversions and social housing partnerships, their projects offer variety and technical challenge in equal measure. As the business continues to grow, they are now looking to expand their commercial team with the addition of an enthusiastic Assistant Quantity Surveyor.
Your new role
Our client is seeking a proactive Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial team across a range of pre- and post-construction activities. This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to gain broad exposure in a small, hands-on team, with involvement in procurement, cost management, subcontractor coordination, and contract administration. You'll be mentored by experienced professionals and encouraged to grow into a more senior role over time.
Responsibilities will include:
Assisting with the preparation of cost plans, budgets, and tender documents
Supporting the procurement of subcontractors and suppliers - including issuing enquiries and analysing quotations
Helping to prepare and manage contracts, variations, and final accounts
Attending site meetings and contributing to progress reporting and valuations
Assisting with cost tracking, forecasting, and commercial reporting
Working alongside the land and technical teams on early-stage appraisals
Ensuring compliance with financial processes and internal controls
Liaising with subcontractors, consultants, and internal project managers
Learning the full lifecycle of residential construction from a commercial perspective
What you will need to succeed:
Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying role (including placement year or post-graduate level) within construction
A relevant qualification (HNC/HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management)
A genuine interest in residential construction and procurement
Excellent communication, numeracy, and organisational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general document management
A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to local sites
What you get in return:
Salary of £30,000 - £38,000 depending on experience
Structured mentoring and career development from senior commercial staff
Involvement in a wide variety of projects, not just cost management
A collaborative and supportive team environment
Exposure to procurement and early-stage project planning
Pension scheme, holiday entitlement, and discretionary bonus potential
Long-term progression opportunities as the company continues to grow
This is a rare opportunity to join a high-quality housebuilder in a role that offers real learning, variety, and future progression.
