Special Needs Support Assistant - Psychology Sociology
An opportunity at a remarkable Special Education Needs (SEN) school has arisen for a team of learning support assistants to gain experience working with young people in an educational and therapeutic setting.
This well-established special school and 6th Form supports up to 160 students aged between 11 to 19 years old, in classes of up to 12 individuals, supported by a teacher and one or more teaching assistants.
THE PUPILS:
All pupils have complex learning & additional needs (LAN) and all are supported by an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP), where needs include global developmental delay, autism, ADHD / ODD/ADD, anxiety, OCD, sleep apnoea, cerebral palsy, visual or hearing impairment, dyspraxia/coordination difficulties, hydrocephalus, epilepsy, Down syndrome, and speech, language & communication difficulties. The majority of students join us are operating at least 4 to 6 years below chronological expectations.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Older pupils have opportunities to do work experience and attend college as part of their educational offer. For example, some pupils are working in hotels, supermarkets and food outlets, and others are following courses in hair and beauty, and engineering at a local college.
