Senior CBT Therapist and LTC Lead

The closing date is 01 December 2025

As a senior therapist in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, with post qualification training and experience in Long Term Physical Conditions (LTC's) / Medically Unexplained Symptoms (MUS), the post-holder is an autonomous clinical practitioner, responsible for their own actions within the context of professional and BABCP guidelines and the overall framework of the service's objectives and policies.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide and develop CBT interventions within Talking Therapies, Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent, for patients with co-morbid LTCs/MUS, in consultation with the Clinical Director and deputy Clinical Director. In the context of the service, the post holder will:

* Provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based CBT and CB interventions to clients with a range of anxiety disorders, depression and co-morbid LTCs/MUS involving the clients family/informal carers as required
* Clinically supervise other LTC practitioners within the TT SSoT service
* Develop, evaluate and maintain LTC pathways within the service
* Build and maintain strong working relationships across the service and physical health teams

Job responsibilities

Please see attached.

Provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based CBT and CB interventions to clients with a range of anxiety disorders, depression and co-morbid LTCs/MUS involving the clients family/informal carers as required. Hold substantial responsibility for the provision of expert clinical supervision to High Intensity CBT therapists and Low Intensity workers within the TT service. Provide expert advice and consultation on psychological issues to colleagues within the TT service and to other professionals in specialist physical health teams, including teaching and training, and collaborative clinical work. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with multi-agency colleagues working with the client group, particularly those in community physical health teams, and take a key role in ensuring that clients are appropriately referred and sign‑posted to other services as their needs require. Utilise research skills for the ongoing audit of the service, in particular regular outcome measures and for research, policy and service development for the Integrated pathways within the TT service. Have an active role in Clinical Governance to support their own practice and continuing professional development, and to promote the maintenance and development of high-quality psychological care for patients with co‑morbid LTCs/MUS within the integrated TT service.


Qualifications

* PgDip in CBT or equivalent
* BABCP accreditation / membership
* LTC top‑up training
* Masters level studies relating to LTC or Physical Health Psychology


Experience

* 2 years experience as QCBT therapist
* LCT experience and supervision received/given
* Teaching CBT to post‑graduate levels
* Work in more than one modality; couples/group/family etc.
* Experience of working within a multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency health setting
* Experience of working with more than one model of psychological therapy
