We are looking for an Internal Communications Officer to join our People Team and play a key role in strengthening colleague connection, engagement and employee voice across our 240+ branches.This is a hands-on role for a strong communicator and storyteller who enjoys working collaboratively, spending time in the business and creating content and communication that is engaging, inclusive and meaningful for all colleagues.Ranked in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2025, we are the largest independent supplier of decorating materials across the UK. We are proud of our wonderful heritage of over 120 years in our industry and our nationwide growth.The roleWorking within the People Team, the Internal Communications Officer is responsible for the day-to-day delivery, governance and continuous improvement of our new internal communication channel via Viva Engage and specifically the All Company community. You will support organisational culture, wellbeing and inclusion by creating relevant, people-centred content and by ensuring colleagues across the business feel informed, listened to and connected.You will be joining a values-led, 120 year old family-owned business where people and culture genuinely matter. If you are neurodivergent or have a disability and need reasonable adjustments during the application or interview process, just let us know and we will do everything we can to make it work for you.Key responsibilitiesOwn the operational management of Viva Engage, acting as the primary administrator and content lead for the All Company communityCreate and curate engaging internal communications content and content schedules, including business updates, colleague stories, wellbeing and inclusion campaigns, sharing charity activity and key announcementsTake a journalistic approach to identifying stories and news across the business, including attending events and visiting branches to gather insight and feedbackWork closely with Marketing, the in-house magazine editor and operational teams to ensure consistent, high-quality and aligned internal communicationsMaintain clear guidance, standards and governance for the effective and appropriate use of Viva Engage, including moderation and administrationPromote internal communication channels through training, awareness sessions and coaching for colleagues and managersMonitor engagement and usage data, providing insight, feedback and recommendations to continuously improve communication effectivenessWorking closely with the recruitment team regarding maintaining content on our recruitment careers page and highlighting vacancies in the businessWorking arrangementsThe role is 30 hours per week over five days and can be flexibly arranged with the successful candidate, provided a minimum of four hours is worked each day.Flexible approach to working hoursRegular travel to branches and suppliers, with occasional overnight staysA full driving licence is desirableAbout youEssentialExperience in a communications-focused role (marketing, people or similar) where creating content and communications has been a key focusPassionate about communication, storytelling and colleague engagementFriendly, approachable, reliable and self-motivatedStrong written communication skills with excellent attention to detailConfident engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and audiences and leading conversationsComfortable analysing engagement data and using insight to shape activityCompetent user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) to an intermediate levelDesirableExperience using Viva Engage or similar internal social platformsUnderstanding of retail environments and retail colleague communicationPhotography, video editing or graphic design skills (e.g. Canva or Adobe tools)What do we give in return?We think we have an amazing culture of looking out for each other and helping one another succeed and has stood us well for over 120 years!
