We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Technology Engineering team at Greggs as a Lead Software Developer to drive innovative, greenfield products that enhance both digital and in‑store experiences.
Working in an agile, cross‑functional team, you’ll help build a scalable, secure platform supporting key digital solutions like click & collect, retail systems, and digital order fulfilment ensuring a seamless experience for millions of customers daily.
* 25 days (5 weeks) annual leave, pro‑rated, increasing with service (in addition to bank holidays), plus 1 additional floating day

About the role

What you’ll do
* Contribute as part of a product‑aligned squad, leading design and development of resilient, scalable and secure software delivering real value to customers
* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to software developers, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement
* Collaborate with product and agile delivery teams to translate business requirements into technology solutions, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and customer needs
* Proactively identify and resolve technical, process or dependency blockers to keep the team productive
* Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve quality and advocate best practice
* Champion operational reliability by troubleshooting production incidents, ensuring prompt resolution and promoting a blame‑free culture
* Influence architectural decisions and contribute to platform evolution and engineering practices
* Lead the team towards a high‑performing, self‑organising product team using adaptive planning to deliver innovative solutions
* Stay curious, keep learning and maintain awareness of emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation
About you
* In‑depth knowledge of software development, with strong experience building production‑grade applications in one or more of the following areas:
* Flutter (Dart, Provider/Riverpod, integration testing)
* Hands‑on experience with modern practices including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, DevOps principles and version control branching strategies
* Good understanding of infrastructure as code and its importance in the Software Development Lifecycle
* Lead by example, advocating for clean, maintainable code, automated testing and TDD
* Awareness of the changing security landscape, considering risk levels and promoting security best practice during solution development
* Strong leadership and management skills, with previous experience leading development teams
* Excellent written & verbal communication, able to present ideas to technical and non‑technical stakeholders at all levels
* Proficiency with Git and understanding of branching/merging strategies within team workflows
* Understanding and communication of the advantages of microservice architecture and value of separation
* Supportive of an inclusive culture – recognising and valuing diversity
* Ready to develop and enjoy working alongside great people on the Greggs journey
It’s not essential, but we’d love to hear about it if you have the following:
* Linux, Ubuntu Core and Snap package management
* Understanding of cost management principles for cloud services
* Experience with logging and monitoring tools to ensure reliability in distributed systems
