Creative Consultation Brief
Background to the project
The Postal Museum, opened in 2017, is one of London's newest museums. It features hands-on exhibitions exploring over 500 years of British social and communication history, and a subterranean Mail Rail ride. The museum attracts over 160,000 visitors annually, with online content reaching nearly a million users. It offers award-winning learning, access, outreach programmes, and a children’s play space called Sorted.
Our Values
* Be open and generous in spirit and action.
* Deliver innovation.
* Communicate stories with clarity and playfulness.
* Be curious about people's stories and experiences.
Community Engagement
The museum's community engagement aims to inspire, promote wellbeing, and reduce social isolation through strong partnerships and needs-based activities. The new strategic programme will expand reach, inclusivity, and participatory practices, aligning with local council and community priorities.
Creative Consultation Project
This project involves engaging local under-represented and under-served communities to understand their needs, barriers to engagement, and ways to overcome them. The insights will inform a Community Engagement Strategy and Action Plan to foster a participatory museum environment.
The project will be led by the Community Programmes Producer, with support from senior museum staff and colleagues across departments.
