Applications are invited for a Specialty Doctor in Neuropsychiatry in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Mental Health Services, Welsh Neuropsychiatry Service. The post-holder will work as part of this specialist Mental Health Service which provides care and treatment to clients with Neuropsychiatric presentations following an acquired brain injury. Main duties of the job You will work within a multi disciplinary team including nursing team, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, and psychology as part of the Welsh Neuropsychiatry Service, the only specialist Neuropsychiatry service in Wales and providing input to the inpatient ward, outpatient, day and community services. The post holder will work in close collaboration with the two Consultants in Neuropsychiatry. Duties will include the assessment and the supervision of patients admitted to the 11 bedded Neuropsychiatry Ward at Hafan y Coed, University Hospital Llandough and the assessment of patients attending the Day Unit for Neuropsychiatric assessment and ongoing rehabilitation. Person Specification Qualifications Essential • MB BS or recognised equivalent • Section 12 (2) recognition under MHA 1983 or qualification to become Section 12 approved Desirable • MRCPsych Part 1 • Academic excellence Experience Essential • Four years full-time postgraduate training (or part-time equivalent), at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as fixed-term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty, OR equivalent experience / competencies Desirable • Assessment of emergencies Skills Knowledge Ability Essential • Commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working • Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance • Up to date with current practices in Psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry • Ability to take independent clinical decisions when necessary and to seek advice from senior doctors as appropriate Desirable • Computing skills • Audit • Research interests relevant to specialty • Teaching Personal Qualities • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues • Evidence of ability to work both in a team and alone • Flexible approach • Motivated and efficient • Commitment to working as part of a multidisciplinary team
