Witherby Publishing Group is a specialist publisher of marine training, reference and regulatory material for the shipping industry.


We are looking for a competent GIS user, with an interest in commercial maritime activities, to join our GIS team on a full-time basis at our offices in Livingston.


This role is an outstanding opportunity for an enthusiastic GIS professional to showcase their technical abilities in supporting the team to ensure that our maritime information products are produced and maintained with accuracy and efficiency.


Responsibilities:

* Produce and update cartographic products and navigational charts for use in commercial maritime publications and websites
* Create, integrate and maintain geospatial datasets and databases
* Develop scripting tools/use ModelBuilder for workflow efficiency
* Maintain the Maritime Chart Service component of Esri ArcGIS Enterprise
* Manage IHO S-63 & S-57 ENC update schedules within the Maritime Chart Service
* Create Web Map Services for use in ArcGIS Desktop and Witherbys ArcGIS Portal
* Create custom basemaps and symbology
* Assessment of satellite imagery data from commercial provider
* Follow and improve workflow processes and maintain project-related documentation
* Provide advice and support to other projects as required
* Procurement as required.


Required Skills and Knowledge:

* 2 or more years of GIS experience
* To have a degree in geographical information systems (GIS) or a degree in a related subject such as geography, computer science, or maritime, or equivalent professional experience
* Competent Esri ArcGIS Pro user, or other equivalent GIS software
* Experience with scripting (Arcade/Python/VBScript), and process automation–ModelBuilder
* Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise and Portal for ArcGIS
* Use of Adobe Illustrator
* Interest in developing new products and improving existing products
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines efficiently
* Experience of using ArcGIS Pro to create maps and manage data sets
* Knowledge of geoprocessing tools, ModelBuilder and scripting
* A passion for anything maritime or nautical; navigational knowledge is desirable.

* Strong communication skills
* Collaborative working with the GIS team and other staff members across the business
* Ability to work unsupervised to deliver high quality nautical publications
* To be dynamic and energetic in your approach
* To be fully competent in Microsoft applications.


Salary and Conditions:

* Salary is £27,000 -£29,000 per annum
* This is an office-based role
* Normal place of work is Livingston, West Lothian
* You will report to the Head of Navigation
* Company wellbeing plan and pension.
