The Lab Manager Role has two main purposes. The first purpose is to bring consistent application of Lab Custodianship best practice across all EE UK Labs covering ESD compliance, bench/workspace management, tool provision, consumable provision, equipment provision (including calibration management), asset management, and Health & Safety management. Leadership of a team of EE Lab Custodians is essential to deliver this part of the role. The second purpose is to own the EE UK Lab & Facilities improvement strategy, engaging with required stakeholders across MBDA UK to generate an EE UK lab facilities roadmap for provision of lab space on all UK sites as required. This will include recommendations of equipment and systems to facilitate more efficient delivery from existing lab spaces as well as working with the UK Site Managers to lobby for the provision of new facilities. Responsible for EE Lab Strategy Accountable for the development of the EE Lab Strategy, showing the long-term proposal for EE Lab evolution on all sites. Liaison with the EE Heads of CofEx/ET and Group Leads to understand current & future requirements Responsible for planning each required lab space Liaison with EE Leadership Team to validate Lab Strategy Responsible for liaison with required Site Managers to ensure that EE’s Lab needs are part of the site management plans. Responsible for EE Lab Budget Management Responsible for the identification of Lab equipment and tool needs, securing required annual funding and appropriate expenditure through Capital and Low Value Capital procurement processes. Responsible for the Lab Management and Coordination Costed Diversions, ensuring that all individuals involved in Lab coordination activities appropriately book time and that only these people are using the available budget. Responsible for Internal and External Calibration and Maintenance, ensuring best value for keeping all EE assets operational within assigned Non-Payroll budgets Accountable for Leadership of EE Lab Custodians Lead weekly EE Lab Custodians Meeting to review progress and agree actions to remove blockers to lab activities and improvement topics Ensure that EE Lab Custodians are effectively managing access of staff members to lab, ensuring they have the appropriate training in place to access the lab environment. Lead collation of lessons learnt from all EE Lab environments to drive improvements to identify improvements in processes and equipment use Lead development of Lab Assistants (ECPs) in line with Development Objectives Accountable for EE Lab Health & Safety Management Be responsible for the health and safety aspects of the EE labs to ensure they are a safe environment for all users, escalating issues to the management team as required Ensure that the Lab Custodians conduct risk assessments and implement any required safety procedures for lab activities prior to commencing, to ensure lab users always remain safe Liaison with SHE regarding any Health & Safety processes or practices that need to be amended throughout the EE Labs Attendance at the various Building Management Meetings on behalf of the EE Labs and liaison with the various Building Safety Zone Managers Safety Zone Manager for 100 Building Operations Lab Accountable to EE Lab ESD Compliance Ensure the appropriate ESD rules are applied and adhered to by all lab users Ensure all EE Labs are compliant with ESD Process for annual ESD audit and if necessary, timely resolution of audit action closure Propose evolution of ESD management practices to be applied to EE Labs and subsequently rolled out to wider MBDA UK via the ESD Policy Panel. Accountable for EE Lab Asset & Equipment Management Responsible for the EE Lab Asset Management, including asset management improvements including the Streamline Asset Management Project Responsible for equipment within the lab ensuring it is maintained and calibrated so available as needed, working with the management team to highlight any shortfalls. Help provide necessary lab equipment and support for external EMC and Environmental test phases across EE Equipment development activities when needed.
