Job Description:
A Finance Assistant is needed to join Stock Gardens, a leading garden design and landscaping business based in Essex. If you're highly organised, proactive, and confident working with numbers, systems, and processes, this is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in a successful, growing company with a reputation for excellence.
Family-run and proudly independent, Stock Gardens deliver high-end garden construction and maintenance services across Essex and surrounding areas. With a tight-knit team and a loyal, discerning client base, they've built a name for combining creative design with reliable, detail-driven delivery. This is a central office-based role where you'll help keep the business financially on track, supporting everything from payroll and invoicing to budgets and reports.
As the Finance Assistant, you'll support the Finance Director in the day-to-day financial operations of the business, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all reporting and finance processes. From tracking budgets and reconciling accounts to preparing cashflow forecasts and supporting payroll, you'll play a key part in the smooth running of the business and its continued success.
What you'll be doing:
* Processing sales invoices, reviewing daily worksheets, and reconciling accounts (bank, credit card, etc.)
* Matching supplier invoices to delivery notes, checking prices, and allocating payments
* Preparing weekly cashflow reports and supporting VAT returns, P&L reports, and monthly accounts
* Assisting with payroll by tracking overtime, sickness, and adjustments
* Maintaining labour time records, comparing project budgets to actuals in Xero, and supporting general finance tasks
What were looking for:
You should be an experienced Finance or Accounts Assistant, confident in managing multiple finance tasks within a busy, hands-on environment. You'll also bring:
* Previous experience in a finance role (senior level preferred)
* Excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
* A proactive, problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently
* Confidence working across teams and communicating clearly
* Strong Excel skills and experience with cloud-based accounting (Xero preferred)
* AAT qualification or working towards it (preferred but not essential)
* A friendly, positive attitude and the ability to follow instructions while using your initiative
Naturally, you'll be given all the tools and training needed to succeed, along with a competitive salary, supportive team, and the chance to become a valued part of a growing business known for quality, care, and craftsmanship.
