Our Population Studies team in the UK specialises in large quantitative studies, developing evidence enabling decision makers and others to make, manage and evaluate public policy. The team deliver a large portfolio of projects for our clients including Understanding Society, the UK’s longitudinal household study, the Crime Survey for England and Wales, and data collection for the Consumer Price Index.
We are looking for a Data Science Intern, who will join a team of data scientists and social research experts to develop data driven solutions to a current research challenge. This will involve working on a specific project to help develop the future of evidence for two months over the summer (June and July 2024).
The successful candidate will play a supporting role in solving a current data related challenge. They will work with an established team of data scientists and have the opportunity to apply their skills to a real-world data problem. The Data Science intern will develop new skills in working as part of a specialist team and learning more about the process of creating evidence for public policy analysis in a large research agency. Candidates should be confident in working as part of a team and have demonstrable skills in data science and coding through academic attainment.
Responsibilities

* Take part in the delivery of an innovative solution, delivering a demonstrable impact to the production of policy ready evidence
* Provide input to the presentation of results to senior leaders in Verian
Requirements
* Strong academic track record in data science or related field
* Proficiency in coding languages, particularly Python
* Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the application of data science in solving real world, public policy problems
* Energy, enthusiasm, motivation, team player
