About Amber Labs
Amber Labs is a growing technology consultancy that delivers secure, scalable digital solutions across the UK public sector. We work with government organisations on complex digital transformation programmes, helping modernise services through cloud-first architecture, data-driven decision making, and user-centred design. Our teams combine strong engineering practices with agile delivery to build reliable platforms that support critical public services.
We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to join our growing team, supporting high-impact digital transformation programmes within the UK Central Government space.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in early-stage project environments, where shaping the problem is just as important as delivering the solution. You’ll play a key role in understanding business needs, analysing existing processes, and helping design future-fit services that deliver real value.
Key Responsibilities
* Analyse current processes, systems, and integrations to understand existing business operations
* Elicit, define, and document business and technical requirements
* Work closely with stakeholders to capture needs, challenges, and desired outcomes
* Develop user stories, process maps, and supporting documentation
* Conduct gap analysis and support solution design activities
* Collaborate with technical teams to bridge business and engineering perspectives
* Challenge assumptions and promote value-driven decision making rather than replicating legacy systems
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience working as a Business Analyst on UK Central Government projects
* Strong knowledge of GDS (Government Digital Service) principles
* Expertise in requirements engineering and stakeholder engagement
* Experience working with non-functional requirements (NFRs)
* Skilled in visual modelling, process mapping, and gap analysis
* Experience writing user stories and working with agile delivery teams
* Confident acting as a bridge between business and technical teams
* Familiarity with tools for requirements management and collaboration
* BPMN 2.0 experience is desirable
What We’re Looking For
* A proactive, consultative mindset focused on delivering business value
* Ability to work in ambiguous environments and help shape solutions from the ground up
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
* A collaborative approach with the confidence to challenge existing ways of working
Additional Information
* Travel: 1 day per week onsite in either Leeds or Manchester
* Candidates must be eligible to undergo UK government security checks
