The successful applicant will be required to deliver patient care demonstrating professionalism, working within competency and excellent communication skills in all aspects of their work. The role is varied and includes venepuncture, assisting with procedures, obtaining baseline observations, computer skills, ordering of stock, stock replenishment, conducting STI screening for asymptomatic patients referring onward when required, results management, administrative duties and rotation into a receptionist role are all aspects of the position.

To provide an efficient and safe environment for clients and staff, reporting any potential safety issues to an appropriate team member and making suggestions for service improvement, according to Trust service policies and procedures. To maintain high standards of infection control procedures according to Trust and service policies. To maintain client confidentiality at all times, according to Trust and service policies. To act as a chaperone taking into account cultural and religious beliefs, as directed by clinical staff, whilst promoting a positive image of the service.

Prioritise own workload and organise own workload on a daily basis to ensure the smooth running of the service. Identify, report (and contribute to recording) to appropriate team member any Child Protection or Vulnerable Adult issues observed during duties, according to legislation & Trust policy. Assist at clinical procedures as appropriate. To report sickness, absence and any accident/incident to the Senior Nurse or her/his deputy.

Experienced HCA's will be considered for a band 3 position if they hold an NVQ level 3 or equivalent, a national care certificate, have IT skills and have experience of working within a sexual health / contraception service. Candidates without experience will be considered, all training can be provided. The role is based at the Crewe site. Applicants may be required to travel on occasion to other locations throughout East Cheshire and be flexible to work a range of early and evening shifts.


Responsibilities and Qualifications

* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
* NVQ 3 (Healthcare)
* Care Certificate or equivalent experience


Desirable Criteria

* Evidence of working at NVQ 3 level (Healthcare)
* Demonstrable experience working at Band 2 within a healthcare setting
* Previous experience of working with the public and/or young people
* Previous experience of working in other areas of sexual health or related services
* General understanding of sexual health
* Good Interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
* Ability to communicate well with vulnerable people from varying backgrounds and abilities and liaise with the multi-disciplinary teams
* Evidence of ability to relate to the needs of young people
* Ability to work flexibly within a changing/evolving organisation
* Ability to work unsupervised, under own initiative and to self-motivate
* Willingness to undertake expanded roles including venepuncture, basic sample collection, point of care testing (e.g. pregnancy testing) microscopy and other tasks necessary to development of role following appropriate training
* Knowledge of Child Protection / Vulnerable adult issues
* Understanding of confidentiality
* IT skills (e-mail, Outlook, Microsoft Word)
* Ability to work flexibly in accordance with service needs and specific role
