We have a great opportunity for an experienced and well‑rounded Chartered/Senior Geotechnical Engineer based in either our Edinburgh or Glasgow office to support our impressive current portfolio of prestigious geotechnical projects both in the UK and internationally. The role supports growing demands from clients in infrastructure (defence, rail, highways & water) and energy (renewable, low‑carbon engineering, nuclear power).
Your role
You will be a chartered geotechnical engineer with a proven technical leadership and project management track record.
* The role includes mentoring junior geotechnical engineers; therefore good communication skills are essential.
* Experience of working in Design and Build environments is highly desirable.
* Applicants should hold a degree in civil engineering or geology with a postgraduate qualification in a geotechnical subject and be chartered as a civil engineer or geologist.
* You should possess the flair and ability to develop our infrastructure or energy geotechnics capability by building on our existing portfolio with a flexible, outward‑looking team that tackles work across a broad spectrum of sectors.
About You
* A good academic background with a degree (ideally MSc or equivalent).
* Chartered status and proven experience in a fast‑moving engineering consultancy environment.
* Project management experience and an understanding of consultancy and design markets, including client relationships, work planning and commercial management.
* Proven geotechnical design experience and numerical/analytical capabilities for structures, foundations, slopes and anchors using appropriate tools and workflows. Familiarity with GeoStudio, Repute, Wallap, etc.
* Digital geotechnical engineering capability, including application of AI and machine learning.
* Application of CDM Regulations in design and ground investigation environments. Excellent interpersonal and technical skills and the ability to lead geotechnical design teams.
* Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise and build client relationships to support effective work‑winning delivery.
* A good commercial track record in negotiating and running successful jobs to deliver “right first time” outcomes. Excellent report‑writing skills with the ability to self‑check and produce accurate work.
* Willingness to travel on short assignments within the UK and overseas, and a valid UK driving licence.
