Overview

We aim to empower each child with the skills to manage risk, build self-esteem, and work towards stabilisation after they leave our service. The trauma-informed approach uses a whole team, relationship-based approach to support the young person to achieve improved emotional stability and behavioural control within a safe environment to explore, understand and develop resilience.

Responsibilities
* Complete in-depth induction training and all mandatory training, including safeguarding modules and Wales induction framework
* Follow Salutem policies and procedures, including health and safety requirements
* Provide support to individual young people with complex health, physical and learning needs within the children’s home
* Attend to the day-to-day needs of the young people and support them to access and participate in activities, including evenings and weekends
* Register with Social Care Wales
* Provide high-quality personal care and promote independence
* Encourage young people to socialise and be included, helping them reach personal outcomes
* Understand the young person’s communication needs
* Create a safe and stimulating environment for young people
* Promote the health and well-being of the young people
* Attend and participate in handover and key worker meetings, liaising with colleagues and management
* Complete key worker activities with individual young people in the home, including those on short breaks
* Work with external agencies and professionals (e.g., social workers, families, healthcare professionals)
* Keep accurate records and report on the young people, ensuring effective communication with the home, school and external agencies
* Maintain contact with parents/guardians, passing on information appropriately
* Be reliable and flexible, using initiative when making decisions
* Attend relevant training to ensure safe practice
* Maintain a high standard of tidiness within the home
* Undertake sleeping-in duties
* Report to management and perform additional duties as requested by senior staff
* Be proactive in assessing and reporting risk
