University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is an established and top performing Major Trauma Centre.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic clinician with appropriate qualifications and experience to join the Major Trauma Service within the ED resus trauma practitioner team. As an integral part of the Major Trauma Service the resus practitioners are based within the ED Resus Department. The role includes the reception of major trauma patients, initial assessment and stabilisation including airway management, and safe transfer for ongoing care. The resus practitioners also support the duty anaesthetist service. This involves supporting airway management in both adult and paediatric patients, assisting with invasive pain management system insertion and assisting massive haemorrhage protocol (MHP) transfusions across the wider hospital.

Main duties of the job
The role is very varied, fast paced and will allow the post holder to develop their knowledge, confidence and extended skills. This post would suit an ODP, Adult Nurse (critical care or emergency nursing) or Paramedic with a relevant anaesthetics qualification and/or current experience.
The rota will include long shifts, weekend and night work. The shift times are: 07:30-20:00, 19:30-08:00, and 12.00-00.30. Major trauma education and skill development will be fully supported within the role.

Job responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Trauma Resus Practitioner is to provide assistance in the management of any patient, adult or paediatric, who presents to the UHCW ED resus area having been involved in a major trauma event. The Trauma Resus Practitioner will be competent in the initial management of the patient with a compromised airway, and then assist the Anaesthetist / Intensivist in securing an airway, maintaining ventilation and transfer to a definitive place of care.
Additional responsibilities:
* Working with the duty anaesthetist on-call providing care to all MHP calls in the hospital and supporting paediatric medical assistance calls.
* Preparation and administration of blood and blood products in line with Trust policy.
* Preparation and administration of drugs via different routes in line with Trust policy.
* Competence in the use of all equipment within the Resuscitation Department, including monitoring devices, rapid infusers, blood gas analyser machine, ventilators and any other equipment used for caring for the critically ill patient.
* Competence in the application of relevant trauma splinting and orthotic devices.
* Preparation of patients for transfer to the CT scanner or other departments; e.g. Theatres or MRI.
* The practice of, or willingness to, undertake training for extended skills identified as appropriate to the role.
* Support paediatric nursing team with airway management support and CPR of all paediatric cases.
* Support Resus nursing team with the management of airway support and CPR of medical cases.
* Active involvement & engagement with the Major Trauma Service across the wider Trust.
