Contract Controls Engineer (Siemens) - Outside IR35 Location: Warrington (occasional office) / Site-based in York & Leeds Duration: ~6 months Start: ASAP Rate: Circa £55-£60/hr (all-in) Overview We are supporting a growing engineering business delivering a conveyor-based project in the Leeds/York area. They are entering the active delivery phase and require a hands-on Controls Engineer with strong Siemens experience to support the full project lifecycle from design through to commissioning. This is an Outside IR35 contract with a fast-moving interview process and immediate start available. Scope of Role This is a full lifecycle controls position, combining design, software development, and on-site commissioning. Key responsibilities include: Controls system design (architecture, power, process, cable sizing, etc.) PLC software development from scratch, plus integration of existing code libraries Working to established standards (avoiding unnecessary rework/rebuilds) Supporting HMI development (desirable) Leading and supporting hands-on commissioning, including: Fault finding (electrical & mechanical) Sensor adjustments and wiring changes System optimisation on-site Collaborating with electrical design teams (ability to specify and guide ePlan designers, not produce drawings directly) Technology Requirements Essential: Siemens PLCs (core requirement) PROFINET networks Experience with decentralised drives/inverters Industrial IO systems Barcode readers (e.g. Cognex or SICK) Desirable: Experience with Omron systems HMI development/configuration Exposure to conveyor/material handling systems Working Arrangements Pre-site phase: Some office attendance required (Warrington) for design, software development, and testing Site phase (from late July/August): Predominantly site-based in York/Leeds Hybrid expectation: ~2 days/week away from home (office, supplier, or customer sites) Candidate Profile Proven experience delivering end-to-end controls solutions Comfortable working both independently and within a project team Highly practical, with a hands-on commissioning mindset Flexible and able to travel/work on-site as required
