General Manager / Operations Director - Transport
This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of the operational and commercial success of a fast-paced SME Transport and Storage business. The role is Midlands based, working as part of a UK-wide network, for an organisation that provides dedicated Transport, spot haulage, and palletised distribution for various clients.
Ensuring operational best practices and efficiencies is key to delivering exceptional customer service while running the Transport fleet optimally through effective routing and asset utilisation. In addition to managing operations, you will oversee central functions such as Finance, HR, and Health and Safety. Identifying new business opportunities within existing customer accounts and supporting the sales team with new business development will also be essential.
The ideal candidate will be a Transport Operations professional with extensive experience in general haulage and pallet network environments. Additional requirements include:
1. Experience working in an SME organization with financial and P&L responsibility.
2. Proven track record of running profitable and efficient transport operations.
3. Strong understanding of Transport-related IT systems and planning tools.
4. Exceptional people management and leadership skills.
5. Thorough knowledge of Transport regulations, compliance, and Health and Safety standards.
