Non-Executive Director – Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
£13,000 per annum | Approximately 4 days per month | 3 year term (renewable)
Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is entering an important new phase in its development.
Serving one of the fastest growing cities in the United Kingdom, MKUH is increasing in scale, ambition and impact. The Trust is delivering sustained organisational change, strengthening performance and culture, and working in close partnership across the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care System and Milton Keynes Place to improve outcomes for the communities it serves.
We are now seeking to appoint a Non-Executive Director to join the Board at a significant moment in our journey.
This appointment comes at a time of continued transformation. The Trust is progressing its digital agenda, expanding the functionality of its Electronic Patient Record system, developing the MyCare patient app and working towards becoming a truly paperless organisation. In May 2023, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care confirmed funding for a new Women’s and Children’s Hospital with additional surgical capacity as part of the national New Hospital Programme. This is not simply a capital scheme but an opportunity to rethink how services are designed and delivered for the future.
We are keen to meet candidates who bring current or recent experience of leading change and transformation in complex, large scale organisations, whether in the public or private sector. You will understand the realities of improving performance, shaping culture and supporting organisations through periods of pressure and progress.
You are likely to bring:
* Senior board level experience in a large and complex organisation
* A strong track record of leading transformation, organisational change or major programmes
* The ability to support and challenge Executive colleagues constructively
* Sound judgement, curiosity and intellectual rigour
* A strong commitment to public service and improving outcomes for patients and staff
Just as importantly, you will understand how Boards operate in highly pressurised environments and how Non-Executives provide both support and challenge to ensure strong governance, effective risk management and sustainable performance.
MKUH has a strong reputation for listening to and empowering its staff. The Trust continues to invest in leadership capability, culture and staff experience and we would particularly welcome candidates who have played a role in shaping inclusive cultures and leading organisations through growth and change.
We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and strongly encourage applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. Candidates with experience from underrepresented groups at Board level are particularly welcome to apply.
As a member of a unitary Board, you will work closely with the Chair, Chief Executive, fellow Non-Executives and Executive Directors to set strategic direction, provide oversight and ensure the Trust remains focused on quality, safety, financial sustainability and partnership working across the system.
Milton Keynes offers excellent transport links, a vibrant and growing community and a high quality of life, with green space and strong educational provision.
