Phlebotomy Manager

The phlebotomy team are staff members of Pathology at Royal Glamorgan Hospital and Prince Charles Hospital also providing an outpatient service at Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda and Dewi Sant hospital. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Phlebotomy staff and will be required to provide a pivotal role in the patient pathway within inpatient and outpatient departments supporting clinical duties as required. The post holder is a valued member of pathology management.
Undertaking the role independently, working within a broad range of occupational policies and professional guidelines.
To act as the Lead Phlebotomist responsible for the day-to-day management of the phlebotomy staff and the service we provide within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) main sites and community hospitals.
To liaise and assist qualified staff to provide safe care for patients within clinical haematology and the outpatients department and ward areas.
To manage and co-ordinate the Phlebotomy staff, enabling those staff to support registered staff in the numerous disciplines.
To contribute to service improvements and communication ensuring safe and timely patient care. As the phlebotomy manager you will work closely and take instruction from the Senior nurse in Haematology providing an overview management of all sites and phlebotomy services with the support of an onsite band 3 senior phlebotomist at Royal Glamorgan and Prince Charles hospitals.
Main duties of the job
* Act as the Lead Phlebotomist responsible for the day-to-day management of the phlebotomy staff within Pathology.
* Liaise and assist qualified staff to provide safe care for patients within clinical haematology and the outpatients department and ward areas.
* Assign areas of work and duties to phlebotomy staff on a staff rota.
* Maintain clinical skills to carry out venepuncture and use Aseptic Non-Touch Technique to perform venepuncture.
* Deliver formal venepuncture training to all staff within Clinical Haematology Department.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
* NVQ level 3 in healthcare or equivalent knowledge and experience.
* Knowledge of phlebotomy/pathology standards of practice and protocols & policies.
* IT skills with familiarity of Microsoft, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
* ILM management qualification or experience and knowledge in the management of staff.
* Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above.
Experience
* Experience in the role of a phlebotomist and pathology department.
* Experience in delivering training.
