Specific Skills
* We are looking for kind, caring & compassionate individuals to join a team of our care workers to provide outstanding care in the Nottingham area.
* Care experience is not mandatory, but it can be an added advantage as we offer full training and support to become a care assistant.
* We require every care worker to have a current UK driving licence due to the nature of the job.
* Your induction will include training such as health and safety, first aid and moving and handling.
Responsibilities
* To promote customers’ independent living and involve them in all decision making.
* To provide physical assistance with personal care, including assistance with toileting, washing, bathing, showering, etc.
* To use hoisting equipment and moving and handling techniques. Training will be provided.
* To assist with or carry out the preparation of meals on request and support with feeding where necessary.
* To prompt or administer medication in line with Break Barriers policy and the customer’s doctor’s prescription.
* To provide assistance with or undertake household tasks including laundry and cleaning.
* To support customers with pet care and light gardening duties when required.
* To support customers in the community with recreational activities such as shopping and social visits.
* To safeguard customers from abuse and discrimination. Training will be provided.
* To attend staff team meetings and mandatory training sessions.
* To communicate positively and effectively with customers, colleagues and other groups including parents, social workers, agency workers and district nurses.
* Respect the customer’s privacy and confidentiality.
* To work weekends and Bank Holidays as required.
* To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as requested.
* All duties and responsibilities must comply with Break Barriers policies and procedures, including the Skills for Care Code of Practice.
* Post holders are accountable for duties with due regard to Break Barriers’ Equal & Diversity Policy.
* Duties involving personal data must be undertaken in line with Data Protection guidelines and Break Barriers confidentiality and disclosure policies.
* To ensure service users retain individuality and dignity by promoting high standards of care and independence where appropriate.
* To ensure different cultural needs are catered for sensitively.
* To respect the confidential nature of the work.
* To provide direct care to service users as required.
* To contribute to effective communication within the team and attend team meetings and case reviews.
* To undertake any other duties of an equivalent nature as determined by the Manager in consultation with the post holder.
* To ensure Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities policies are implemented at all times.
* To attend formal and informal training to enhance understanding of service users’ needs and abilities.
