Job Title Senior Product Owner Location Belfast, Northern Ireland - Hybrid (2 days per week in Office) Purpose and Importance of Position Operates under the direction of the Director of Application Development. Collaborates effectively with Technologists, Managers, and Principals to define and deliver high-quality products and services for RiverStone’s business. Assumes ownership of the product backlog for one or more products across multiple workstreams. Responsible for establishing strong partnerships with business stakeholders to identify, plan, and execute strategic product roadmaps and visions. Essential Functions This central role within RiverStone IT requires partnership with RiverStone Business to build out product roadmap(s), agree priorities with key stakeholders and drive the agile engagement of the implementation team(s). Duties include: Responsible for product management, including responsibility for shaping product vision and developing strategic roadmaps (epics), authoring and maintaining Product Backlogs, and translating features into actionable user stories. Familiar with AI concepts and able to effectively shorten product design and development with effective use of AI tools. Facilitate and lead collaborative sessions such as whiteboarding workshops to uncover and clarify business processes, requirements, expectations, and priorities. Maintain Sprint Backlogs and fulfil the responsibilities of a Scrum Product Owner within an agile delivery framework. Work with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to refine and prioritise product backlogs ahead of quarterly planning cycles. Identify, monitor, and manage cross-team dependencies to ensure timely and efficient delivery of product commitments. Partner with development teams to ensure agreed commitments are achieved and delivered to specification. Organise and present sprint and quarterly demonstrations of completed features to stakeholders. Work closely with key business partners, including Business Stakeholders, Directors, and Managers, to escalate issues, manage external dependencies, and provide clear visibility of backlog progress. Promote and encourage best Agile practices across teams, setting standards, and coaching other areas as required (including Program Backlog prioritisation, Quarterly Planning, User Story creation, Sprint Planning, Backlog management, Demos, and Retrospectives). The ideal candidate excels in business acumen, embraces agile methods, and consistently seeks process improvements. They value team achievements that support RiverStone's strategic goals. Required Skills Recognized Product Owner certification (or similar). Must possess excellent communication skills as well as exceptional analytical and time management capabilities. Can naturally build a firm business understanding in a complex domain. Lead workshops, questioning and proactive investigation. Proven ability to negotiate with and manage stakeholders up to and including C-suite. Proven learning skills, blending instructor led, self-taught, online, conferences, books etc. Demonstrable skills in problem solving and process solutioning. Experience in supporting team through estimating / sizing and mapping this to achievable Business commitments. Adept at working both individually and collaboratively as part of a team. Fully understand and able to explain the technical architecture supporting own product Customer service oriented with the ability for developing long lasting relationships with internal and external business partners. Full grasp for the technical solution, including dependencies Although not a coder, be able to understand technical implementation of products. Basic SQL skills. Organizational Develops creative ideas and solutions to business problems and/or business opportunities; takes reasonable, calculated risks even if failure is possible. Empowered to continuously improve RiverStone’s business processes/ systems and proactively surface ideas and solutions. Consistently delivers excellent customer service to both internal and external business partners. Demonstrates alignment with RiverStone’s Commitments. Prioritizes and organizes work in self-directed manner. Attains and maintains knowledge of assigned department. Performs other duties as required, including supporting and coordinating with other department colleagues. Creates and tracks cost forecasts vs actuals for both services and people. Experience Product Owner of an owned application or product Track record of leading workshops and elicit requirements thought discovery sessions 5 years of working within a pure Agile team 5 years of building team sprint backlogs in collaboration while impacting a larger program Has managed multiple product backlogs concurrently Worked directly with senior business stakeholders Catalyst to drive business direction, business process and organize into a program level backlog Hands on technical experience with firm grasp of technologies utilized within the team Full understanding of project management methodologies, in particular SCRUM. Required Education Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Additional equivalent years of experience in Information Technology can be substituted for degree. Preferred Education or Certification Bachelors or Masters Supervisory Role Minimal, but with experience of mentoring junior team members Travel Minimal to none, based upon business needs with occasional trip onsite Manchester / NH visits. Work Environment / Physical Demands This position operates in a professional, collaborative environment and must have the ability to timely produce thorough, accurate work with many competing demands, deadlines, and distractions. The position uses standard equipment such as phones, computers, copiers/printers and filing cabinets. Noise level is moderate.
