Learning Support Trainee (SEN) – York
We’re partnering with specialist SEN and alternative provision schools in York, looking for enthusiastic individuals to join as Learning Support Trainees. This is an ideal opportunity for people from care, youth work, or similar backgrounds who want to transfer their skills into education, gain hands-on SEN experience, and work towards formal qualifications. No previous school experience is required — just a passion for helping children thrive.
Location: York
Pay: £14 per hour
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, long-term (with potential for permanent progression)

The Role As a Learning Support Trainee, you’ll work closely with pupils in Key Stage 2,3 & 4, supporting them with learning, daily routines, and social development in SEN and SEMH settings.
You’ll:
1. Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs
2. Support students’ learning, social, and emotional development
3. Help create a positive, inclusive, and safe environment
4. Apply your transferable care or youth work skills to support pupils
5. Learn SEN strategies, behaviour management techniques, and teaching skills under guidance
