Overview

Our Team Leaders play a critical role in helping deliver justice. This role enables you to demonstrate and develop your leadership skills. You are responsible for ensuring your team delivers excellent administrative support and customer service to service users, judiciary and management. Leading your team, you will focus on the team’s area of work, ensuring that work is prioritised and organised and that your team is fully skilled to meet objectives. As an effective Team Leader, you recognise the importance of the team’s overall wellbeing and can motivate your team to succeed. You will contribute to the delivery of operational, performance and service standard targets and provide statistical data for the management team and judiciary. Your keen eye for detail and desire for continuous improvement are key to your success. Monitoring and analysing performance areas and trends, conducting ongoing reviews of procedures and work practices, and the ability to successfully recommend improvements, navigate change and manage the implementation of new initiatives and legislation are essential. This is a challenging and rewarding role, key to the smooth running of operational functions throughout HMCTS. HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Working Patterns and Location

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and/or from home (please note that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity. Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and are subject to regular review.

For nationally advertised roles: successful candidates will be appointed to the nearest viable office to their home postcode and on its respective pay scale, at a HQ building (subject to desk allocation), a Justice Collaboration Centre (JCC) or a Justice Satellite Office (JSO). For current MoJ employees, base location will be changed to the nearest viable office to your home postcode, within the National Office Network and pay scale changes will apply.

Standard full-time working hours are 37 hours per week. MoJ welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns, where they meet role and business needs. Applications for part-time working will be considered in accordance with the MoJ Flexible Working policy. Minimum hours for part-time roles would be 30 hours per week over 4 days.


Eligibility and Tax/Immigration

Skilled Worker Visa: From 22 July 2025, the Government increased the salary threshold and skills level for Skilled Worker visas. This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for sponsorship for first-time Skilled Worker Visa applications under current immigration rules. The Department cannot sponsor unless the applicant has held a Skilled Worker visa continuously since before 22 July 2025. If you have held a Skilled Worker visa continuously, raise this during vetting checks for eligibility assessment. If you do not meet new sponsorship criteria, consider options for obtaining or maintaining right to work in the UK in light of changes. Successful applicants must have and maintain the legal right to live and work in the Civil Service and in the United Kingdom. The Department will continue to comply with UK Immigration Rules. Selection Process and Behaviours

Leadership Experience will be assessed through a Statement of Suitability with guidance provided for its completion. Interviews will be held in person with possible alternative dates/virtual arrangements considered in exceptional circumstances or as part of reasonable adjustments. Behaviours assessed include Leadership, Making Effective Decisions, and Communicating and Influencing. Strengths will be assessed but are not shared in advance. Use of Artificial Intelligence: evidence submitted must be truthful and accurate; plagiarism concerns apply. The following security checks are required: Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).
