We are looking for Fire Engineers to join our UK team. Youwill complement our fire safety team and help deliver fire safety engineering services for our clients.Aspart of a 400 strong fire safety skills network across 20 offices, yourrole will involve interactive and collaborative working with fire safety colleagues and multidisciplinary teams at Arup. Projects Our projects are diverse and range from conceptual fire strategy development through to handing over landmark projects. We undertake fire safety research to develop evidence-based solutions for novel fire safety hazards and strive to find ways to improve safety equity for the most vulnerable. We do this for our clients, and inpartnershipwith academia and industry- strivingto enable a sustainable, resilient built environment, using the latest knowledge andexpertise,assistedby our own in-house digital tools and software. You’llbe working with the teamwho havedeliveredprestigious projects such as WorkStack, the RIBA London Award-winning building, now a contender for a RIBA National Award. It is the UK's first light industrial structure made from mass timber, where innovative fire safety engineering merges with sustainable design to set a new benchmark for urban industrial spaces. Is this role right for you? You’ll either be working towards Chartered Engineer status or have a real motivation to achieve this. If it’s the latter, we will support you with what you need to succeed here. As a Fire Engineer you would be expected: To understand and implement the principle of fire science on real projects via the engineering process (goals,objectives, building appraisal and hazards, design fire scenarios etc). To understand the Total Fire Safety concept: from client brief, through design and construction; taking account of the socio-technical context,seekingto pre-empt fire safety issues common atdifferent stagesof a project, so thatthe end resultdelivers on the client brief. To investigateand applyappropriate legislationand design guidance for use on your projects. To develop and implement fire strategies in collaboration with the design team and relevant stakeholders.You’lleither be working towards Chartered Engineer status or have a real motivation to achieve this. Ifit’sthe latter, we will support you with what you need to succeed here. We’relooking for: Qualification in a relevant subject (fire engineering, other types of engineering, or architecture related). Experience in a fire engineering consultancy or similar environment (industry related). Knowledge of applicable legislation and guidance used in the UK, and awareness of the new regulatory regime. Excellent report writing and communication skills - be collaborative, be creative and engaging. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, working to tight deadlines and juggling multiple demands and deliverables. Proactivity in resolving issues, creating solutions, relying on others as required for assistance and experience.
