Cycle Instructor (Van Driver)
First Step Cycle is one of the Yorkshire region's leading cycle training specialists. We train people and promote cycling to improve lives.
The Position
Are you motivated to teach the next generation of cyclists? We are seeking keen cyclists who will work as part of a team to deliver fun, safe and informative Bikeability Training. The role requires the ability to work independently and within a team and a commitment to delivering quality cycle sessions.
This is a flexible casual role and requires the candidate to drive a van to and from sessions, which are delivered between 8am – 3pm. Hours are typically 9–20 per week.
Successful candidates will be provided with the cycle instructor training qualification - 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training (T & C's apply).
Responsibilities
* Assist with the delivery of National Standard Cycle training as organised by First Step Sports.
* Load equipment and drive to sessions.
* Complete course registers, assessments, course reports and results (training will be provided).
* Complete risk assessments of the trainees, cycles, and the training area (including on-road locations).
* Accountable for the safety and welfare of colleagues and trainees.
* Ensure training is delivered in line with First Step Sports’ health and safety policy with an awareness of accident and incident reporting procedures.
* Enable trainees to cycle safely, promoting cycling as a means of transport and a fun, healthy activity.
* Dress professionally – In line with the First Step Sports Uniform (provided).
Knowledge and Experience Requirements
* Regular and competent cyclist.
* Understanding and awareness of road and traffic environments.
* Ability to communicate effectively with all trainees including children, parents and schools.
* Be decisive, maintain good discipline, inspire confidence and give encouragement.
* First Aid and Child Protection Training (these are mandatory qualifications for the role; if you do not have First Aid we can enrol you onto a course — costs will apply; safeguarding training is free).
* Understand basic cycle maintenance (Desirable).
* A Driving Licence and your own transport are essential for this position.

Candidates must be available to attend the Cycle Instructor training course on the following dates: Course dates: Monday 20th, Wednesday 22nd & Thursday 23rd October 2025 (9am - 4pm). Location: TBC (Hull). Start date: November 2025.
