Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic Emergency Care nurse who is keen to develop their professional knowledge and clinical skills and undertake an Emergency Nurse Practitioner trainee post. The role will be 6 months supernumerary working alongside an experienced ENP at Worthing Emergency Department/Urgent Treatment Centre.
Main duties of the job
Under direct and indirect supervision, you will learn to assess, treat and diagnose both paediatric and adult patients presenting to the ED/UTC with minor injuries and illness as well as more complex and chronic conditions.
This is a band 6 training post but following successful completion of external and internal training and assessments, consisting of supervised clinical practice, academic study at Masters Level and feedback, the candidate will progress to working as an autonomous and independent Emergency Nurse/Care Practitioner at band 7 within the ED and UTC
You will aspire to excellence in your clinical practice within the Nursing and Multi-Disciplinary Team and contribute to meeting the identified Key Performance Indicators within the time frames identified.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Service Delivery and Improvement
* To work closely with the Lead ENP and Lead Clinician so that the vision and the goals of the ED and UTC are translated into practice.
* To work with the Lead ENP to proactively identify and participate in the implementation of changes to areas for improving healthcare practice and service delivery.
* Communicate effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to encourage learning and improvement and to ensure adoption of evidence-based practice and facilitate the delivery of high-quality care.
* To promote and collaborate in the provision of an environment where patients, visitors and staff feel valued and supported.
* To initiate and/or participate in research if required.
* To ensure one’s practice is evidence based and in line with local, national and professional standards.
* To develop and participate in audits relevant to high standards of patient care and relevant to the expanding the ENP/ECP role/service.
* To promote and disseminate research findings to support clinical practice and education.
* To undergo combined university and departmental programme of study in the assessment and management of minor injury and illness presentations.
* To maintain, update and develop clinical competence and skills and assist in teaching within the Emergency Practitioner/ UTC team.
* To act as mentor/ assessor for junior nursing/ medical students as required with scope of practice and level of competence.
* To assist in teaching sessions as required to undergraduate and post-graduate staff within the multi-disciplinary team.
* To attend operational and department huddle meetings to represent the department.
* To identify areas of risk and poor quality, addressing these through appropriate governance structures.
* To participate in health, safety, fire and quality audits and initiatives within the department.

Qualifications / Experience
* Valid NMC/HCPC
* Significant experience in emergency care
* Evidence of on-going professional development
* Evidence of accredited post study qualification
* Up to date with all statutory and mandatory Trust training
* PGD Trained
* Evidence of independent study in minor injury and illness
* Evidence of audit or research experience
* X-ray interpretation training
