Job Description:
This is a fixed-term position with funding available for 24 months, starting in early January 2025. The role is for a post-doctoral Research Assistant/Associate in Professor Judith Driscoll's research group, working on a collaborative project with a start-up company in Cambridgeshire.
The successful candidate will conduct research on oxide thin film materials exhibiting electrical switching effects in epitaxial binary ferroelectric oxide thin films, targeting applications in non-volatile memory or neuromorphic computing. Responsibilities include working with industry partners, performing experimental research in a team environment, and working under the supervision of Prof Driscoll.
Key tasks involve thin film growth via pulsed laser deposition and/or sputtering, materials characterization using techniques such as X-ray analysis, XPS, AFM, and electrical device fabrication and testing. The candidate should be highly self-motivated, ambitious, and demonstrate research independence with experience in the methods described.
Experience Criteria:
Applicants should have or be about to obtain a PhD in materials science or a closely related field, with relevant experience. Experience with 2D materials like graphene, hexagonal boron nitride, or transition metal dichalcogenides—whether in device fabrication, synthesis, or characterization—would be advantageous. Effective communication skills and the ability to plan and organize independently are essential.
