We’re looking for School Catering Assistants to join our supply team, supporting school kitchens across Conwy and Denbighshire. This flexible role is ideal for individuals who can step in at short notice to help prepare and serve nutritious meals, ensuring pupils receive high-quality food in a clean and friendly setting.
Job Specification
Job Purpose:
To assist in the preparation, serving, and cleaning involved in the delivery of school meals, ensuring food hygiene and health & safety standards are met at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with the preparation and cooking of meals under the direction of the school cook or catering manager
Serve food to pupils and staff in a polite and efficient manner
Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, dining areas, and equipment, including washing up and waste disposal
Follow food hygiene, allergen, and safety procedures in line with school and local authority policies
Set up and clear down dining areas, including arranging furniture if required
Replenish food, drink, and utensils as necessary during service
Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries
Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service
Be adaptable to work in different school environments on a supply basis, often with short notice
What we’re looking for:
Essential:
Reliable and punctual
Able to work flexibly, sometimes at short notice
Good communication and teamwork skills
Awareness of food hygiene and safety practices
Ability to follow instructions and work independently
Desirable:
Previous experience in a catering or kitchen environment
Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2) – We can provide this free of charge if needed
Experience working in schools or similar settings
Knowledge of dietary requirements and allergens
Additional Information:
An Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is required for this role – You have the opportunity to obtain one if you don’t already have one
Training and support may be provided as part of onboarding
Own transport is desirable due to the varying locations of schools across Denbighshire
