Job Description
AECOM is currently seeking a Senior Fire Protection Engineer specialising in Fire Fighting Systems design, to be based in either our St. Albans, London, Manchester, or Croydon office.. This is a consultancy‑based position, requiring experience in fire protection design and a client‑focused engineering environment.
Your role will involve designing, calculating and proposing fire safety solutions on small and large projects while acting as a key point of contact. You will also undertake surveys, produce reports, and support day‑to‑day project management for secured programmes.
This role is ideal for an established consultant seeking progression, or someone with strong technical depth who wishes to join a respected fire safety consultancy.

Key Responsibilities
Design, Calculations & Proposals
Leading FP design on some projects, supporting the lead FP engineer on more complex projects, including:
1. Prepare design packages for various RIBA stages (drawings, specifications, reports, hydraulic calculations).
2. Create Fire Suppression System solutions for multiple applications at all stages of design.
3. Perform calculations including sprinkler water supplies and gaseous agent quantities.
4. Support the remote project‑delivery teams.
Survey & Reporting
5. Conduct technical reviews and assist in solving design issues.
6. Perform field investigations or inspections.
Client & Team Coordination
7. Communicate effectively with project teams, clients, authorities, contractors and other stakeholders.
Project Management
8. Support project manager on projects of varying scale, delivery and technical assurance.
Minimum Requirements
9. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
10. Strong quantitative and analytical abilities.
11. Relevant engineering degree or professional qualification.
12. Experience in consultancy or related industries.
13. Knowledge of British & International standards and Building Regulations.
14. Experience with Fire Suppression Systems (Sprinklers, Water Mist, Gaseous Suppression, Risers, Hydrants, Hose Reels, Hypoxic Systems).
15. Software proficiency (Word, Excel, CAD, Revit, hydraulic tools).
Qualifications
16. Evidence of CPD and professional development.
17. BEng, MEng or working towards it
18. Engineering Council registration (CEng/IEng) or working towards it
