Are you passionate about protecting, enhancing and restoring the aquatic environment?
Our multidisciplinary Water Environment team is looking for a Consultant Aquatic Ecologist to help us leave a positive impact. We’re at the forefront of innovation, delivering an exceptional portfolio of water programmes and projects through long-term partnerships with key clients. These include the Environment Agency, Natural England, Water Companies, renewable energy projects, nationally significant infrastructure projects, and more.
Our Aquatic Ecology team operates in our Nottingham and Leeds laboratories, analyzing macroinvertebrate and other samples, undertaking aquatic field surveys, and providing robust technical deliverables and services. You will be based in our Leeds, Basingstoke, Edinburgh, or Nottingham office, enjoying flexible hybrid working. This role offers an excellent opportunity to support a talented, passionate team committed to making a positive impact on our aquatic environment.
Here’s what you’ll do:
1. Quality: Deliver consultancy and advisory services with high technical quality, prioritizing safety and security.
2. Deliver: Collect and process freshwater macroinvertebrate samples, undertake benthic macroinvertebrate surveys, and assist with fieldwork and sample collection (macroinvertebrates, macrophytes, phytobenthos, fisheries, water quality, etc.).
3. Support: Assist with Environmental Impact Assessment documents following CIEEM guidelines. Support data entry, analysis, and processing for freshwater projects, contribute to survey reports and ecological appraisals, and assist with desk studies and literature reviews.
4. Collaborate: Work with other environmental specialists and disciplines on various projects.

Qualifications
Are you ready to push the limits of what’s possible?
* Degree or equivalent in aquatic ecology, environmental science, or related field, with some experience in aquatic ecology.
* Knowledge of current environmental legislation, including the Water Framework Directive.
* Experience with aquatic ecology surveys (fish, macroinvertebrates, crayfish, macrophytes, riparian mammals, River Habitat Survey, etc.).
* Membership or eligibility for membership of CIEEM or similar professional body.
