Job overview
We are seeking a motivated Specialist Respiratory Physiologist to join our team at Swansea Bay University Health Board.
You will perform a range of lung function and sleep diagnostic tests, as well as the initiation and follow up of patients on CPAP therapy.
The department also hosts a range of students from both PTP and STP training programmes, therefore you will be responsible for the teaching, training and assessment of trainee clinical physiologists and clinical scientists.
Commitment to ongoing development and training is essential.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the day to day service delivery of Respiratory and Sleep Physiology Services across Swansea Bay University Health Board. You will be working to provide a wide range of highly specialist investigations and therapies. Also working cooperatively with the wider medical and educational teams to facilitate teaching and MDT support.
Specialist investigations performed include Overnight oximetry, multichannel studies, CPAP, autoCPAP, autoBIPAP, ASV trials and patient follow ups, CPET, lung function testing (Spirometry, transfer factor, Body plethysmography and FeNo) reversibility, Hypoxic and Mannitol challenges.

Suitable candidates would hold a BSc. Clinical Physiology (Respiratory), STP Msc. Respiratory Science or PTP Bsc. Respiratory Science. Registration with RCCP or AHCS would be essential.

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge
* BSc Hons. Clinical Physiology
* RCCP Registered (or eligible)
* ARTP Part 2
* Experience, scientific and Medical knowledge through formal training and practice in a wide range of complex and highly specialist Respiratory Physiology investigations and procedures to post graduate level.
* Experience in quality control issues. Experience in stock control, ordering/purchase of supplies. Proficient in using a wide range of diagnostic test equipment including recognition of basic faults, calibration and quality control issues.
* Capable of supervising and managing and teaching junior staff, delegating and prioritising. Confident at liaison with Medical, Technical, Nursing, and other staff. Able to deal with conflicts. Confident to train medical personnel and Physiologist colleagues. Confident and competent to act appropriately in emergencies and in the event of significant clinical findings.
* Health and Safety experience. Skills in Cardiac Physiology.
* Able to assist with accurate clinical, technical and business reports.
* Experience with data collection and Audit.
Essential Aptitude and abilities
* Adhere to and can demonstrate SBU Values & Behaviours.
* Aware of issues around confidentiality and the handling of clinical information. Good keyboard skills. Able to undertake flexible working hours as required.
* Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
