Assistant Director of Music
Salary: £55,379 pa maximum (remuneration will be dependent on experience and relevant qualifications). 62 periods per fortnight / 34 weeks.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, flexible and dependable Assistant Director of Music, who is committed to contributing to the co‑curricular Music programme to join our team in August 2026. This is following the distinguished tenure of the current postholder who is retiring at the end of this academic year.
Responsibilities
* Direct music ensembles in the school (e.g., Orchestra, Concert Band, Jazz Orchestra) according to your areas of expertise and department needs.
* Assist the Director of Music in liaising with Visiting Music Staff, focusing on your area of expertise (strings, keyboard, etc.).
* Monitor the progress of music scholars.
* Assist in preparing candidates for graded Music examinations.
* Support the department’s work, including assisting with concerts, musical productions and other events.
* Deputise for the Director of Music in their absence.
* Teach music classes to a very high standard of professional practice, ensuring that students acquire an abiding love of the subject and secure excellent results in their examinations.
* Teach music throughout the school.
* Assist with the organisation and delivery of music trips and tours.
Qualifications
* Educated to degree level in Music (essential).
* Experience of teaching classroom Music in a school (essential).
* Working knowledge of ICT (essential).
* Experience of teaching Music to A‑Level (desirable).
* Experience of directing Music ensembles (desirable).
* Proven administrative skills (desirable).
* High level of proficiency as a performing Musician and/or Conductor (desirable).
