The Opportunity:
Responsible for managing a portfolio of small charities, Trusts, limited companies, sole traders, and partnerships utilising the ABAS team to provide accountancy and administrative services, including annual accounts preparation, bookkeeping/banking oversight, and independent examinations. In addition, you will arrange and review grant claim verification work.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage a portfolio of commercial enterprises and charity clients.
* Plan, arrange and review the preparation of annual accounts (charities, trusts, limited companies, sole traders, partnerships - including annual accounts for subsequent audit)
* Serve as the primary point of contact for clients outsourcing their finance functions.
* Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their business goals and tailoring financial solutions accordingly.
* Ensure timely and accurate delivery of outsourced finance services – utilising our team of Seniors and Assistants - including reporting, compliance, and decision-making support.
* Conduct Independent Examinations in line with charity regulations.
* Attend/Hold Trustees meetings and report to Trustees on small Trust clients, as well as support the preparation and processing of trust documentation, including Gift Aid claims and statutory filings.
* Administer and prepare claims for grant funding (e.g., Innovate UK, Scottish Enterprise).
* Administer and assist with bursary applications
* Liaise directly with clients, offering advice and support as needed.
* Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their goals and tailoring financial solutions accordingly
* Work with internal teams to ensure high standards of service delivery and client satisfaction.
* Supervise and mentor junior staff involved in outsourced finance and advisory services.
* Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the team.
* Delegate tasks effectively to ensure the highest level of service delivery to clients.
What are we looking for?
Essential:
* Minimum of 3 years' experience in a practice environment in similar role (
* Solid understanding of accounting and regulatory frameworks.
* Experience conducting Independent Examinations.
* Strong bookkeeping skills, including experience with cloud-based software (e.g., Xero)
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to manage multiple clients and priorities efficiently.
* Experience of preparation of accounts under FRS102(FRS102 1A), FRS 105
Desirable:
* Experience preparing Innovate UK or Scottish Enterprise grant claims.
* Working knowledge of trust administration.
* Prior experience working with charities and trusts
* Experience in mentoring and training
