A vacancy has arisen within our Standard Products Development team for an engineer who wants to grow, take on extra responsibility, and develop their technical skills. You will design and deliver standard power supplies to customer requirements using appropriate technology to produce competitive products on time, to cost and to performance expectations, with a “Right First Time” mindset. You will also provide leadership and support for other members of the team.
The main duties and responsibilities of this role are:
* Design and develop standard AC/DC and DC/DC power supplies to meet customer & market requirements
* Define schematics, select topology, components and specify BOMs to meet cost, reliability and performance targets
* Produce detailed design documentation, schematics, work with PCB designers, and define test plans
* Verify designs through simulation, prototyping and testing (functional, thermal, EMC/EMI)
* Ensure compliance with applicable safety and regulatory standards (IEC, UL, CE, etc.)
* Technically lead critical development projects to agreed timescales and budgets, driving “Right First Time” quality.
* Support manufacturing launches and provide post-launch field issue support and continuous improvement.
* Evaluate new topologies and technologies for applicability in standard product ranges.
* Provide mentorship and technical support to junior engineers; produce clear technical reports.
Skills, experience and qualifications required:
* Degree (BEng/MEng/BSc) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience
* Proven experience (typically 10+ years) in power electronics design, including a variety of topologies, including, but not limited to buck, boost and LLC
* Expert knowledge of power conversion topologies, magnetics design, control loops, component selection and thermal design
* Proven ability to design power supplies from a “blank sheet”, excellent fault finding, diagnostic and problem solving skills. Experience of design to cost targets.
* Experience with simulation and design tools (e.g., SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink), PCB design or collaboration with PCB designers (Altium, Mentor, etc.)
* Practical experience with EMC/EMI mitigation, safety standards and product certification processes
* Good hands‑on prototyping and test experience (oscilloscope, LCR meter, thermal imaging, etc.)
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with team members and internal project stakeholders.
* Experience in mentoring junior staff and provide constructive technical leadership
Working week: 37.5 hours per week - Mon to Thu 07:45 – 16:30 / Fri 07:45 – 12.15
Salary Range: From £52,467 to £63,213 per annum DOE
