Job overview
We are seeking to recruit an additional Consultant Neurologist to join the existing consultants at University Hospitals Plymouth in order to expand our provision.
The post-holder will be responsible for delivering outpatient clinics, inpatient ward rounds and on-call duties.
Plymouth is a national GIRFT exemplar site for acute neurology services, caring for more patients with acute neurological conditions than anywhere else nationally; it is one of only five centres in the UK where neurologists also care for stroke patients from presentation at the hospital.
In addition to clinical duties the successful candidate will actively develop and manage the department, train medical students, junior staff, nursing and allied health professionals, and contribute to grand rounds, regional academic meetings, audit meetings and journal club.

Person specification
Education, qualifications and special training
* MRCP (UK) Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist register via: (a) Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) – proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview, (b) Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR), or (c) European Community Rights.
* Higher degree or within 12 months of submission Postgraduate prizes and awards.
Particular skills and experience
* Evidence of ample acute neurology experience.
* Attended appropriate courses, fellowships or equivalent.
Research and Clinical audit
* Evidence of a research interest and clinical audit.
* Presentations at local, regional, national or international meetings.
* Relevant audit projects; published as first author in peer‑reviewed journals.
Teaching
* Experience teaching junior doctors.
* Enthusiasm and experience in teaching.
Management
* Experience participating in management processes (e.g., service or research).
* Interest and ability in management; attended courses or gained qualification in management.
* Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team working and leadership supported by multi‑source feedback or other workplace‑based assessments.
Practical Requirements
* Ability and willingness to work the hours of the job, with reasonable adjustments to accommodate local requirements or disability.
* Access to own transport to fulfil duties.
Communication & Interpersonal skills
* Well‑presented CV; team‑working skills; ability to delegate appropriately.
* Good presentation skills; prizes/awards; IT technology skills including evidence where such skills have improved patient care.
* Leadership skills.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
