Quality Inspector, Cammell Laird

Known across the globe at our Birkenhead facility, on the banks of the River Mersey we expand across 130 acres which includes four dry docks, a large modular construction hall and extensive covered workshops.
We’ve played a strategic role in UK shipbuilding for the past 200 years, repairing, maintaining and building ships and other vessels.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of our wider QHSE team and ensure our project critical path is on track – carrying out mechanical inspections and job verification activities in line with inspection and test plans.
* Measure mechanical components and check tolerances against drawings and specifications (e.g. engine components, pumps, valves, coolers).
* Complete accurate inspection reports and record findings clearly.
* Organise sub‑contract NDT activities.
* Liaise with customers, classification inspectors, production teams, and subcontractors to support quality requirements.
* Help identify issues, solve problems, and support final acceptance of completed work.
Qualifications
* Ideally someone with experience gained in Marine Ship Building / Repair or Heavy Engineering.
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and identify mechanical components.
* Good understanding of engineering principles, codes, and standards.
* Internal Auditor trained.
* Strong communication skills and confidence working with customers and internal teams.
* Computer literate, with the ability to produce reports and maintain records.
* Able to work independently, manage priorities, and perform well under pressure.
