About the Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Structures Engineer to join our award‑winning Consulting Structures Team in the South West. The role will primarily involve working on the South West Scheme Delivery Framework for National Highways, with opportunities to work on complex schemes across the UK.
We co‑locate with our client at offices in Exeter and Bristol, attending the office three days a week with remaining days worked remotely.
This opportunity suits a developing Engineer working towards Chartership or having achieved Incorporated status, with an understanding of the DMRB and Eurocodes for highway bridge design, strengthening, refurbishment and assessment.
Responsibilities
* Lead a team and produce technically sound engineering solutions.
* Take ownership and lead projects from start to finish, from quotation preparation to handover.
* Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation to satisfy quality, cost and programme criteria.
* Oversee the actions of junior team members and take responsibility for their work.
* Contribute to the professional development of junior staff and act as a Delegated Engineer.
* Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attend progress meetings and respond to queries.
* Manage a single discipline technical team and take responsibility for delivery of their workload.
* Contribute to the preparation of bids and general work‑winning functions.
* Drive effective Health and Safety practices within the team.
What You Will Bring
* Developed experience and expertise within Structures, probably gained in an Engineer role or equivalent.
* Ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
* Take ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables and check deliverables to a reasonable standard.
* Very good working knowledge of relevant software and analytical tools (e.g., LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
* Demonstrate good commercial awareness.
* Good understanding of CDM and risk assessment.
* Substantial experience in managing and communicating hazards and risks on projects, ensuring appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied.
* Good understanding of interface management and ensure own deliverables align with deliverables produced by other disciplines.
* Incorporated or Chartered status with ICE or IstructE, or equivalent professional licence.
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learning.
