🏗️ About the Role
A leading design and construction organisation is seeking an experienced Project Designer (KBS) to join their Technical Design Team in Birmingham.
This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to complex structural and architectural projects, supporting the delivery of high-quality, technically advanced solutions across hot rolled structures, LGSF systems, timber roofs, and more.
You'll produce detailed 3D models and technical documentation, coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders, and play a key role in mentoring junior designers while ensuring compliance with industry standards.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
Create detailed 3D models, production drawings, and design packs (CAM, panel drawings, site marking plans, HR fabrication drawings).
Attend and contribute to design meetings with architects, engineers, and contractors.
Coordinate external design elements such as stairs, lifts, balconies, and masonry supports.
Provide technical support to clients and ensure delivery meets project specifications and deadlines.
Mentor trainees and apprentices, sharing technical and software knowledge.
Ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations (CDM, ISO, etc.).
Support continuous improvement by addressing design non-conformances and maintaining high standards across design outputs.
🎓 Candidate Requirements
Essential:
Strong proficiency in 2D/3D CAD (AutoCAD, Tekla Structures).
Technical qualification (HNC/Diploma or higher) in a construction-related discipline.
Experience with structural design and detailing (hot rolled steel, LGSF, timber, composite decks, etc.).
Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings accurately.
Project coordination and strong communication skills.
Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to deadlines.
Able to work independently and as part of a wider team.
Desirable:
Experience using Revit (not essential).
Full UK driving licence.
