Job overview

This 12 month post has been created to meet increasing clinical demand, contributing to the delivery of a secondary and tertiary level Paediatric ENT service. The successful applicant will be on-call for Salford Royal Hospital (adults and children) and the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

The Paediatric Otolaryngology Department provides a secondary service, together with a busy tertiary service which forms a large proportion of our workload. The department aspires to be the leading combined secondary & tertiary Paediatric ENT service in the UK, in terms of clinical service, education and research contribution to the specialty.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to make a full contribution to both the secondary care requirements of the organisation as well as the needs of our tertiary level service. This will include both elective and emergency care. It is anticipated that the post holder will develop specialist clinical interest and expertise to complement those of the exiting consultant team.

The post carries 10 Programmed Activities which include 7 fixed clinical sessions.

Flexible sessions, which cover:

* Audit
* Administration
* Teaching
* Continuing Medical Education
* on-call covering the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital & Salford Royal Hospital

The current job plan shows 1.5 SPA time for core CPD, appraisal, mandatory training, audit and clinical governance and teaching. The job plan is subject to review with the appointee within 3 months of appointment in light of the changing needs of the service and the appointee. A commitment is required to address outpatient and in-patient waiting times when required.
