Biomedical Engineer position available

In the group of Prof. Sadaf Farooqi at the Institute of Metabolic Science, University of Cambridge.

We are recruiting to a new position to develop Organ‑On‑a‑Chip technology to study metabolic disease. You will work as part of Professor Sadaf Farooqi's team in the Institute of Metabolic Science who are internationally recognised as being at the forefront of research in obesity and metabolic disease. The Farooqi team collaborate with Professor Shery Huang in the Dept of Engineering, Cambridge in this area.

We are establishing a new initiative to use microfluidics‑based platforms to study hormone cross‑talk between organs such as the liver, pancreas and skeletal muscle. Additional developments of this technology will include the incorporation of biosensors to measure concentrations of glucose, fatty acids and hormone levels when organs are stimulated by drugs or undergo genetic manipulation to model metabolic disease.


Requirements

To deliver on this exciting project the team is looking for an enthusiastic, committed and experienced Biomedical Engineer, with a degree in Bioengineering, Materials Science or Materials Science and Engineering, who is eager to contribute to world‑leading discovery research. Working closely with molecular biologists, biochemists, clinician scientists and computational scientists, you will be responsible for the development, testing and implementation of Organ‑On‑a‑Chip technology. You will project manage the development of this platform and closely related platforms working with multiple stakeholders, managing budgets and keeping accurate records.

The funds for these posts are available for 2 years in the first instance.
