Overview
An exciting leadership opportunity has arisen within a well-established public sector team overseeing Building Control services across the South Worcestershire area. As the strategic head of the Building Control function, you will guide a dedicated team of surveyors and administrative staff, ensure statutory compliance across all services, provide expert technical oversight, and drive service performance to enhance local market engagement. This is a newly created position designed to bring innovation and leadership to a growing regional team. The role includes representing the authority in regulatory inspections, managing inter-authority board meetings, and supporting legal proceedings linked to building regulations.
Responsibilities
* Oversee and lead the Building Control service across multiple local councils
* Provide technical guidance and support in accordance with current legislation
* Manage and mentor surveyors and support staff
* Lead service delivery performance and implement growth strategies
* Represent the authority in official inspections and hearings
* Collaborate with stakeholders and contribute to policy development
What We're Looking For
* Chartered professional (MRICS, MCABE or similar), with current registration with the Building Safety Regulator (Class 2 minimum)
* In-depth understanding of current regulatory frameworks and emerging challenges in Building Control
* Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams
* Confident communicator able to build effective relationships at all levels
* Experience in public sector environments, with a strong grasp of compliance, enforcement, and community engagement
* Adaptable, well-organised, and solutions-focused
