Job Overview
Here at Orchard we are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Fabricator/Welder to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for fabricating and welding metal components with precision and efficiency, contributing to the production of high-quality products. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong mechanical aptitude and experience in various welding techniques, particularly MIG welding, to develop their skills within a professional environment.
Responsibilities
* Carry out coded welding on structural steel and fabricated assemblies in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
* Perform MIG / MAG coded welding (FM1 + FM2) using approved gases (M24) on EN 10025 / EN 1090 CE marked materials
* Weld material thicknesses ranging from 1mm up to 50mm in all qualified welding positions including PA, PB, PC, PD, PE, PF (OVERHEAD / UPHILL)
* Read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and blueprint drawings accurately
* Set up welding equipment correctly, selecting appropriate consumables and parameters to match WPS requirements
* Complete pre-weld checks and post-weld visual inspections to required acceptance criteria
* Work alongside welding inspectors and NDT inspectors, supporting MPI / UT / RT activities as required
* Rectify weld defects and carry out approved repairs in line with WPS and quality procedures
* Maintain accurate weld traceability, records, and quality documentation in line with BMS requirements
* Support manufacture of complex one-off prototypes as well as repeat production components
* Ensure all welding activities comply with ISO 9001, EN 1090, and internal quality systems
* Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work area in accordance with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) requirements
* Work collaboratively with the wider production team to meet deadlines and output targets
* Identify and report defects, material issues, or deviations from specification promptly
* Assist with mentoring apprentices or less experienced welders when required
* Contribute to continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives within the fabrication area
Desirable Qualifications
* NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Fabrication & Welding or equivalent qualification.
* CSCS or CCNSG Safety Passport.
* Previous experience in structural steel, modular construction, or off-site manufacturing.
* Understanding of lean manufacturing and quality-controlled production environment
