TARKA is a fresh new concept and disruptive brand that will revolutionise hostels and create a new category of accommodation in the UK.
The capsule concept is well established and successful in Japan and other parts of Asia. TARKA aims to create an upscale version of a capsule hotel appealing to a diverse range of guests. The hotel will leverage technology for streamlined operations. Facilities include a bar and restaurant based on an Izakaya, offering drinks and simple dishes during the day and evening, and a Scandinavian-style coffee shop on the ground floor open to the public.
TARKA’s USPs are its sleeping capsules, technology-led DNA, and unique F&B concept. This role offers an exceptional opportunity for a professional familiar with local licensing laws, capable of developing strong relationships with authorities to ensure brand standards. We seek a manager who understands that delivering memorable service involves more than traditional management—someone with a proactive attitude, innovative thinking, and a proven track record in hotels or hostels, enhancing reputation and revenue to position TARKA as a standout brand.
Position reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Direct Reports: All hostel staff and third-party suppliers
Location: TARKA Edinburgh, South St Andrews Street, Edinburgh. Some travel may be required.
Hours: Early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
Main purpose of job: Lead and inspire the hostel team to deliver memorable guest experiences, ensure efficient daily operations, maintain brand standards and legal compliance, and act as an ambassador for TARKA in Edinburgh by building relationships with guests, staff, stakeholders, and third parties. Manage a successful hostel business, meeting financial targets and KPIs.
Main Accountabilities:
* Collaborate with the TARKA executive team to define the Edinburgh hostel experience, develop operational strategies, and oversee profit centers to ensure a cohesive brand experience.
* Manage all aspects of the hostel's operations, including guest experience, sales, revenue, and F&B outlets.
* Handle budgeting, cash flow, and P&L, focusing on increasing occupancy and F&B through innovative offers and events.
* Ensure revenue and profit targets are met, maintaining brand standards, legal compliance, and a safe, clean, and well-maintained hostel.
* Oversee maintenance, build good relations with neighbors, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
* Implement company policies, train staff to high standards, and foster a service-oriented environment.
* Engage with guests to enhance satisfaction and feedback.
* Support social media and community engagement, content creation, and revenue management strategies.
* Maintain cleanliness, presentation, and operational standards above minimum brand requirements.
* Coordinate with third-party suppliers to meet standards and ensure trained management coverage during operational hours.
* Train staff on safety procedures and handle any other tasks as assigned by the Line Manager.

* Managerial experience in hotels or hostels, preferably in a chain or budget sector
* Financial acumen and understanding of yield management
